Karen oversees projects and operational issues for CCBAR and the South
Side Health and Vitality Studies. She was an undergraduate here
at the University of Chicago in the History, Philosophy, and Social
Studies of Science and Medicine (HiPSS) Department and earned her
Master’s in Health and Social Behavior from the Harvard School of
Public Health. Karen’s research interests are in health
disparities and health communication. Prior to joining the Lindau
Lab, she worked on the Hospitals, Language, and Culture study at The
Joint Commission, which examined the provision of culturally and
linguistically appropriate care in hospitals. Additionally, she
worked at State of the Art, Inc. helping to develop consumer-oriented
multimedia education materials using social marketing techniques and
health behavior change models.
