Biosketch

Stacy Tessler Lindau, MD, MAPP is PI and Director of the Chicago Core on Biomarkers in Population-Based Aging and Health Research. She is also Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Medicine (Geriatrics). Dr. Lindau is an integrated health researcher, combining biomedical and social scientific techniques to study health and health behavior in the population setting. Her primary interest is in deciphering the biological pathways linking women's sexual relationships to health and health outcomes, particularly in the context of aging and life-threatening illness (e.g. cancer and HIV). She is Co-PI with Linda Waite of the NIH-funded National Social Life, Health and Aging Project (NSHAP).

Curriculum Vitae

Natalia's background is in computer science, anthropology and biodemography. Her current research interests involve biodemography of aging and longevity, centenarian studies and application of new web-based computer technologies to biomarker studies. Natalia currently is working on CCBAR website content and dynamic functionality as well as assists in the Chicago biomarker workshop organization.

Karen oversees projects and operational issues for CCBAR and the South Side Health and Vitality Studies. She was an undergraduate here at the University of Chicago in the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Science and Medicine (HiPSS) Department and earned her Master’s in Health and Social Behavior from the Harvard School of Public Health. Karen’s research interests are in health disparities and health communication. Prior to joining the Lindau Lab, she worked on the Hospitals, Language, and Culture study at The Joint Commission, which examined the provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate care in hospitals. Additionally, she worked at State of the Art, Inc. helping to develop consumer-oriented multimedia education materials using social marketing techniques and health behavior change models.

Dima Qato, PharmD, MPH

Dima received her PharmD from the University of Illinois at Chicago and my MPH from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Her research interests include the consequences of the misdistribution/allocation of health care resources, particularly medications, in vulnerable populations, including the elderly, on health; health and human rights; and international health.

Emily Abramson, MPH

Emily holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from San Diego State University, where she studied the effects of community organizing on the individual and organizational capacity of domestic violence service providers. She provides organizational support to CCBAR and epidemiological and statistical support for many of the ongoing research projects as well as supervises the undergraduate research staff in the Lindau Lab. Currently, her work efforts are mainly directed toward the South Side Health and Vitality Studies, in which she helps with the facilitation of background research and grant writing. Emily also spends a portion of her time providing research and statistical support for the Program in Integrative Sexual Medicine clinic, and she works with Dr. Lindau on her collaboration with the TRIUMPH study, looking at the patterns and prevalence of sexual issues in women following an MI.
